Written by Nicholas Chilton

Where does the time go?! It doesn't seem a year since our last Annual General Meeting and here we are announcing that this year's meeting will take place on Saturday 24th April at 2.15pm in the Thackray Museum. As in past years, Alun will lead a walkabout in the Cemetery at 1.30pm, everyone is welcome, we'll meet by the notice-board inside the main entrance.
This year’s speaker will be Jackie Depelle who’s talk is entitled “The Eyres who became Millionaires': celebrating family
history through a local family". Jackie is a member of the Friends and was appointed recently as Chair of the Family History
section of the Leeds Archaeological Society.

Our congratulations go to Brookwood, Highgate, and Kensal Green cemeteries who have all been upgraded by English Heritage to Grade I Historic Parks & Gardens recognising them as of “international significance”. This is a great achievement and has involved a lot of hard work by the various Friends groups and Societies. The Register of Historic Parks and Gardens lists nearly 1,450 sites, of which 140 have Grade I status

Snow covered Cemetery

It sometimes seems in Britain that when it snows, everything stops - though the same isn't true for wildlife. Beckett Street Cemetery is an important green space for wildlife in the inner city and if you go when its quiet, you will often see a varied amount. I popped down to see the Cemetery after the recent snow fall and saw a few grey squirrels and a fox, though they were all too quick for my camera. From the photo below you will see that us humans are getting used to snow flurries and venturing out as the council's park patrol and various walkers have already been out before me.
