Remembrance Day Walk, 2pm 11th November 2012
The Friends are having a guided walk around the Cemetery on Remembrance Sunday, as we do each year, and everyone is welcome. This year with the opening of the Bomber Command Memorial there will be some heroic tales to tell, as well as some recently discovered military graves to see. As always British Legion Crosses will be left at graves we visit and a minute’s silence observed at our Cross of Sacrifice Memorial, with the laying of a wreath. Please meet at the Notice Board by 2pm. |

Our Annual General Meeting was held in April. We gathered on the second floor of the Thackray Museum, which gave us a good view of the Cemetery. Earlier, Alun had led a walk round for members to see what's new and to update them on our projects. Opening the meeting, Alun welcomed everyone and covered two Matters Arising from 2011. One was the sprucing up of the gates. Replacements would be too costly, so the plan has been that the Pay-back teams will be set to work wire-brushing and repainting them. That still hasn't happened, in spite of several reminders to Council managers – we'll keep on reminding! The second point was that the Friends will offer to host the National Federation's Annual General Meeting in 2015, (not 2013 as mentioned last year, since Friends of York Cemetery offered first). 2015 marks two anniversaries, - the opening of the Cemetery 175 years earlier and the founding of the Friends 30 years ago.
