The Annual General Meeting of the Friends will be held on Saturday 26th March, 2.15pm at the Thackray Museum. Seconded nominations are welcome for the roles of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and committee members. It's quite a bit earlier than in past years, but Saturdays in April are either during school holidays or around the Easter holidays and it's been difficult either to book a room or to get the committee together. As in previous years, Alun Pugh will lead a half-hour walk round the Cemetery, pointing out what has changed since last year. Meet by the notice board for 1.30pm. The meeting will be followed by a talk entitled “The Whitelocks of Leeds”. Many Leeds people will have had a drink in 'Whitelocks', (actually 'The Turk's Head') the pub off Briggate but it's a fair bet that not many people know that publican, Lupton Whitelock, is buried in Beckett Street Cemetery. The talk will be given by his descendant Ralph Whitelock, who is also Chairman of the Friends of Whitelocks.
