There has been concern for some time about the presence of groups of people who sit in the Cemetery as they drink the day away. Although mostly peaceable, they have been involved in fights from time to time, shouting lewd comments and leaving the debris of drinking. All of which can be intimidating to visitors. The concern was heightened over the autumn as the groups have grown larger, 2 men were arrested for drunken and disorderly behaviour and fires have been lit in several places. At our instigation, the Council’s Parks & Countryside have asked the Anti-Social Unit to tackle the issue. An officer will be assigned to the case, which will need a multi-agency approach and a meeting will be called of all departments potentially involved and that will include the Friends.
